Description: YORK MINSTER Clock by John Smith and Sons, Clerkenwellc.1850-70Based on the York Minster Cathedral in Deangate, North Yorkshire, this clock was made by the firm of John Smith and Sons , Clerkenwell, London in the mid 1800's. one of the great British clock makers of the nineteenth century. It has a two train movement with fusees for both drive and time.It also retains its original base and hand blown glass dome. Because of the fragility of the glass, fewer and fewer of these clocks with their original domes have survived and the skill of making these domes alone has become a lost art. $ 9800 or best offer. (shipping in the US with insurance $150.) (Note: Because of the fragile nature of the glass and clock, I will ship the clock and glass dome separately. The glass dome will first be bubble wrapped and placedin a cardboard box. This will in turn be bubble wrapped and placed into a larger box for shipping. The clock itself will also be carefully wrapped in a similar manner)
