I have owned this since it was new and it has been in my Christmas storage bins. I would think any issues could be cleaned off. The inner light up screen does come out and is held in with straps. This is a new item in regards to not being opened or never used and out of the package. NEW, may not mean from the current year, it could be a new older item.
