Description: WWI Era US AEF US Model 1917 Bolo Knife w/Scabbard - Marked: Plumb Phila. 1918 - Very NICE Condition - RARE Up for sale is a WWI Era US AEF M1917 Bolo Knife w/Canvas Covered Scabbard. This knife has a blued blade, with a wooden handle. The blade has minor evidence of sharpening. No nicks or chips in the blade. Normal finish wear and discoloration the blade. The blade is marked: Plumb Phila 1918, on one side and US Mod 1917 on the other. The markings are clear and readable. The is NOT the more common M1917CT version. The knife has a set of walnut grips on the handle. The grips are in Very Nice condition, no cracks or chips. The ridges of the grips are still present. The knife has the Canvas covered Scabbard with the leather tip. The leather tip is intact, no fraying. It is marked: Bauer Bros. 1918. The body and metal throat of the scabbard is the later design without the hook for the thumb latch, see photos. This is the correct version scabbard for the M1917 Bolo. If you see M.H. Coles Book's "Best of US Military Knives, Bayonets & Machetes" page 28, example #4. This would make a great accessory to add to your WWII collection. Please see photos.
