Description: STK: #BAYO-4Brought to you by CAMARILLO TRADERS specialists in new, used & antique arms, collectible militaria and rustic ephemera WWI 1918 US Machine Gun & Artillery Crew A.C. Co. (American Cutlery Company - Chicago) M1917 Bolo Knife ONLY (Missing Wood Grip Panels) Manufacturer: American Cutlery Company (A.C. Co.) Chicago Model: M1917 >--> Condition: Fair - Good Blade Length: 10.00" TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a WWI US Machine Gun and Artillery Crew M1917 bolo knife ONLY. The scabbard is NOT included. This was made for crews to clear vegetation when setting up their guns. The Model M1917 was a simplification of the earlier M1910 Bolo made by Springfield Armory. The main difference is the lack of the press catch mechanism on the scabbard and grip. They felt the catch was not necessary to keep the knife in place. There were two manufacturers that made the knives, Plumb and American Cutlery Co. of Chicago. This one is marked "C.T." which stood for "Commercial Tolerances" that meant it was not made to stringent tolerances. Overall, this bolo knife is in Fair - Good condition, considering its age and condition. It is missing the guard, wood grip panels and screws. The pommel is securely fastened to the tang and has some light oxidation and discoloration. The spine and sides have impact marks and scrapes. There is a lot of oxidation on both sides but heavier oxidation on the right side. The blade edge has no nicks or dings and it has its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a semi-sharp straight point. The finish is in the white and some of it remains mixed with the oxidation. The left ricasso is marked "A.C. CO. / CHICAGO / 1918" and the right side is marked "U.S. / MOD 1917 / C.T.". The scabbard is in Very Good - Very Good Plus condition, considering its age. The exterior is made of canvas and leather. There is an M1910 belt hook loop on the back. It is made of brass and has started to tarnish. It retains its original shape and is securely fastened to the canvas. The canvas has a couple small tears on the back and has scattered stains. The leather has no rips or tears and is securely fastened to the canvas. It too has some light drag lines and finish loss. The stitching is sewn tightly. The mouth is made of brass and is slightly discolored. We are unable to remove the canvas sleeve from the main body, but feeling around the area, the wood doesn't seem to have any signs of unusual wear. The knife slides in and out easily. The leather chape is marked but is hard to read. It looks like "A.K. Co. / 1918 / B.H.S.". This bolo knife and scabbard will be a great addition to your WWI Artillery Crew collection, or a bolo knife collection in general. As with all used items, a light cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards. Please see our photographs for a better understanding of the contents and its condition. Shipping: Calculated.
