Description: The M3-10A1-6 Lightweight Service Mask was a gas mask used by the US during WW2. It was carried in the M6 Bag, Lightweight Service Mask. In 1942, the M3 Lightweight Service Gas Mask was standardized, and featured an interior anti-fogging nose cup, and an improved M10A1 filter canister. The M3 was manufactured from both grey rubber and black Neoprene synthetic rubber. Over 13 million of the M3 series masks were produced during WW2. The M6 Bag was used for both the M3 and other masks to hold the mask itself, the canister, plus accessory items such as anti-dimming sets (to prevent fogging of the lenses), covers and protective ointment. The bag has interior pockets for accessories and is stenciled with "Army Lightweight Service Mask" on the exterior front, near the bottom. The M6 bag has a top closure that is secured with three lift-the-dot fasteners. Like other WW2 webbing and bags, the bag color was OD #3 early in the war but changed to the darker OD #7 shade in 1943. This M3 mask is in excellent condition, with the black neoprene rubber mask and hose still very supple and the retention straps still retain their elasticity. This bag was manufactured by and marked 43 GDYR 222 (1943, Goodyear Tire and Rubber). The filter canister shows no rust or dents of any kind. The M6 Bag and strap is in similar excellent condition with early war OD #3/khaki canvas and has no stains, mildew or hardware rust. The set also comes with an anti-dim cloth housed in a grey metal cylinder. A terrific early war addition to any WW2 field gear collection! Shipped promptly.
