Description: Original WW2 THIRD REICH military map of an area of POLAND and GERMANY entitled "SCHNEIDEMUHL". At the time SCHNEIDEMUHL was on the German side of the border, but now it's known as 'PILA' and the entire area forms part of modern day POLAND. Printed in September 1939 by the AUSTRIAN military mapping services, which had been under German control since 1938. It was seemingly retained by the Austrian mapping authorities as part of their own official collection. However, the map was clearly captured by the Allies later in the War, and eventually found its way to the map library of the British 'Directorate of Military Survey', before it was finally removed from the War Office's archive with a 'CANCELLED' ink stamp. From a large collection recently sold off by Edinburgh University - hence their own ink stamping to margin. (From time to time, the government distributes excess stocks of Allied maps, along with captured enemy examples, to various national institutions such as libraries, museums, universities etc.) Has never been folded, so will be shipped rolled in a cardboard tube.
