Description: US Carbine Caliber .30 M1 This is a nice reproduction of an original WWII photograph showing a US .30 caliber M1 Carbine. The M1 carbine was developed as a weapon for support troops, to replace the main battle rifle (1903 Springfield or M1 Garand). It was intended to be handier and lighter, but provide much better protection to the soldier than a sidearm would. The M1 carbine used a .30 caliber, 110 gr. intermediate power cartridge that lacked the range and stopping power of the full size .30 caliber (.30-06) round. However, the M1 carbine filled the role it was intended for very well, and in fact sometimes replaced the M1 Garand in front line infantry units as a primary weapon. It was well liked for its handiness in jungle and close quarters, and although it lacked some of the stopping power of the Garand, it received little criticism in that regard. Over 6.5 million were produced. Size of photo is about 4" x 6". Click Here to Receive My E-mail Newsletters!! Be sure to add me to your favorites list!
