Description: A nice example of aWorld War Two GermanWehrmacht-issue Field-greyNumbered & 1937-dated CanisterfromThe 1944 Battle of Normandy. Found in the Normandy town of Carentan, (south of the US 'Utah' D-Day Beach),the canister is in a very good 'as found' conditionwith most of its field-grey outer paint remaining, its inner aluminium sleeve in situ, and still bearing its original hand-painted white number243 Missing its shoulder strap, but still in possession ofits main pull-down strap, the internal gas mask lenses lid bears the imprint 1937and though sadly that small inner lid does not seeminglywant to stay shut, this does not detractfrom what is, a cracking Wehrmacht infantryman's canister. Measuring some 10" in height(bearing an unidentified marking painted in red on the lid)and with a pretty fantastic, all-over, paint finish this all makes for a a superb 'barn-find' in France. A cracking piece of surviving personal German field kit from the Allied heavy fighting that took place across Normandy after the June 6th D-Day Landings of 1944 (Colour image courtesy The Tomahawk Films WW-II Archive) Thanks for looking..!
