Description: A very nice example of aWW-II eraRoyal NavyBoatswain's Whistlec.1939 - 1945 Historically, the Bosun's whistle was used aboard ship to communicate signals & commands that could not be heardby a human voice above the sound of the sea,in the manner that ground-based forces used the bugle or signal-horn. Eventually with the advent of electronic communicationand the gradual increase in enclosed bridges, the Bosun's whistle-call become more synonymouswith a more traditional usage, such as piping aboard & ashoresenior officers, the raising of the Union flag, marking sunsetand in certain circumstances, at naval funerals Measuring 4" long and in full working order, with a double War Department Arrow marking on the ball, this is a really good archetypal example of a WW-IIRoyal Naval Matelot's Bosun's whistle.
