Parry' in ink to the lining; The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, O.B.E. (Military Division) Officer's breast Badge, silver gilt; 1914-15 Star impressed named ENG. COMMR, H. L. PARRY. R.N.; British War and Victory Medals impressed named ENG. COMMR, H. L. PARRY. R.N., these last 4 mounted as worn, good very fine.C.B. London Gazette 3 June 1931.O.B.E. London Gazette 11 August 1919.Engineer Rear-Admiral Herbert Lyell Parry was born at Rhyl, North Wales on 14 September 1875. Joining the Royal Navy on 25 June 1896, he spent most of his service prior to the First World War in home waters apart from a short spell in China. Prior to joining Repulse on 8 August 1916, he undertook various engineering courses.Repulse participated in the Second Battle of Heligoland Bight in 1917 and Parry was rewarded for his services, the O.B.E. being conferred:'[For] maintaining the engine room of Repulse in a high state of efficiency from the date of her commissioning in August 1916'.He left Repulse on 17 December 1918 spending the remainder of his service at home and was additionally rewarded with the C.B. in 1931 prior to being placed on the retired list on 7 September 1931.
