Description: British Brodie helmet shell with liner remnants and battle insignia on both sides. Purchased at auction in the UK and brought to the US. This helmet was for a soldier of the Hood Battalion, 63rd Royal Naval Division while on the Western Front from 1917. MHS Special Number 2016 publication on BEF Infantry Divisions Identification Schemes 1917 (p. 60-61) notes the Hood Battalion battle insignia was a rectangle divided vertically into thirds light blue, blue, light blue - like this insignia - on both shoulders (similar to the dual sides appearance on this helmet). Matches flashes on a Hood Battalion helmet once owned by renowned British Great War collector Joe Sweeney. Please reach out with any questions or offers. Thanks for looking.
