The bamboo pipes are cut in graded length with the open end on the upper part, which is the position for the musician to place his lip on when blowing the instrument. The lower end is sealed with a water proof material made mainly of beeswax, called Kheesoot, which is different from the Wode used in the past in that the joint of bamboo pipe was retained to keep the wind inside the pipe. The sound is tuned into 5 graded pitches according to the length of the pipes. The pitches are tuned in harmony with the pitches of the Kaen or the Pong Lang. The pipes are glued around a bamboo section with the Kheesoot. The upper part of the Wode is rounded to support the lower lip of the musician, and also for the ease of turning the instrument around itself. While blowing the musician has to turn the instrument to proper angles in order to produce the desired musical sounds. In the old days the Wode was a toy and a musical instrument used by boys who took care of buffalos.
