Description: I have here for sale Volume 3 (only) of THE WORKS OF THE REV. JOHN NEWTON. Late Rector of the United Parishes of St.Mary Woolnoth, and St Mary Woolchurch How, London. John Newton was an English evangelical Anglican cleric and slavery abolitionist. He had previously been a captain of slave ships and an investor in the slave trade. He served as a sailor in the Royal Navy (after forced recruitment) and was himself enslaved for a time in West Africa. He is noted for being author of the hymns Amazing Grace and Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken. This volume he covers topics : Inoclulation, Impropriety of too long Sermons, Venice, Voltaire Monster of profaneness et al. This new edition was published in 1821 by Hamilton and Smith et al. Half bound in leather over marbled boards. Faint gilt title lettering on the spine. Board and spine edges are worn. Boards holding firm. General foxing / toning through the book. This book is in good condition, tightly bound with no loose or missing pages. 308pp. 19cm x 11cm. Postage and packing : I know that you will be looking forward to receiving your order, each book is carefully wrapped in packing paper ( I have changed from bubble wrap to try and reduce my use of plastic) and posted in a Jiffy bag if size permitting, if not it is double wrapped in corrugated cardboard, brown paper and then securely taped.
