Description: Though not too rare in and of itself, this piece was owned by the Amon Carter family of Fort Worth. Amon Carter Sr. was an extraordinarily wealthy man with a publishing and oil and gas empire. He also amassed an incredible coin collection including the legendary 1804 Silver Dollar. This piece came from the estate of his daughter in law who was married to Amon Carter Jr. I will provide provenance paperwork showing the address of the estate sale at which this was obtained as well as appraisal district paperwork showing ownership of the residence and a nice bio of Amon Carter Jr.'s widow who, unfortunately, just passed last year. The medal itself commemorates Orville and Wilbur Wright who were inducted into the Hall of Fame for Great Americans at New York University. It shows the two brothers in profile on the obverse with their names and dates of birth and death. Under the right bust of Orville, are the words "Paul Fjelde SC 67" in very tiny incuse letters. The reverse has a really nice vignette with their airplane pictured in relief as well as Icarus and Daedalus. It is marked on the edge with "Medallic Art Co. N.Y. Bronze". A really beautiful piece of artwork with provenance to an important family in the history of Fort Worth and Texas.
