Description: Signed etching and aquatinte 21 1/4 inches high by 14 3/4 inches wide by Wifredo Lam from the luxury edition of the livre d'artiste entitled "Contre une maison seche" by Rene Char which contained nine etchings. According to the colophon there was an edition of 175 copies numbered 1 to 135 and I to XL all signed only in the colophon by Wifredo Lam and Rene Char. Of these the ones numbered from 1-40 and I-XV include a suite on Papier D'auverge Richard de Bas signed by Lam, who also hand-colored numbers 1-10 and I to V. The only exemplar I was able to see is at Houghton Library at Harvard University and is copy 55 without the suite. In this copy only the colophon is signed and the etchings are neither signed nor numbered. According to the catalogue raisonee by Doninique Tonneau-Ryckelynck from 1975 only one or two of the etchings numbered 1-10 were actually hand-colored. There is also a small 1/4 inch irregular indentation on the bottom lower left edge of the paper shown in picture 2.The price is $600 and shipment will be between two sheets of masonite and will cost $30.00.
