Each person has the basic information about them provided if it's known, and a brief history detailing where they came from, their involvement in the church and what happened to them, again, if it's known. I would recommend this to anyone; non-member, new-member, long-time member, and life-time member. It has truly given me a better appreciation of all the different people who helped form and move the church forward in this last dispensation.Anon 5/5 stars A good study supplementVery helpful in my study of the Doctrine and Covenants. There are places where I feel as if the story just drops off and ends too abruptly, leaving me saying, "But what happened then?" but I can deal with that and in general the length of each biography is good. It's hard to write about the people in Church history objectively, their lives are so far removed from what we have and experience today and there are places where I feel as if there are shadows of Black's personal feelings inching in. But again, not overly much. She does love the word "mobocracy" though and after the fifth or sixth time it popped up it kind of became a game to see how long it would be before it popped up again. But these are small criticisms for a good study aid and I would recommend it to anyone who isn't satisfied with breezing over the names in the sections.--MichelleM 5/5 stars Excellent resource for tying history togetherWe've taken a number of church history trips, and of course the same names keep popping up, but in different contexts and settings. This book really helps tie together the various places where a particular person from church history shows up, helping the reader understand the story of that person's life, and their part in church history.--Joel 5/5 stars - WOW!!I did not know that this book existed until my friend told me about. She gave it very high praise. I am teaching the Gospel Doctrine class and this will be a great help to get to know the people who are in the Doctrine and Covenants.I would tell people if they asked where to get the book so that they could be more knowledgeable about the people associated with the Doctrine and Covenants.--Janet Williams 5/5 stars - Excellent and Important ReadAbsolutely outstanding. So informative, interesting, and well worth reading. Makes connections in the Doctrine & Covenants so much easier to understand.--Nancy K. Smith Copyright © 2018-2024 TDM Inc.
