Trivia buffs and Regis Philbin fans unite -- you can now play the popular ABC game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire on your PlayStation console. Who Wants to be a Millionaire: 2nd Edition features 600 new questions and more smarmy commentary from the suave, aforementioned host.
If you have been living under an Atari 2600 and are new to the Millionaire phenomena, you should know that players sitting in the hot seat must answer 15 multiple choice questions in order to win $1,000,000. If you want a chance at a cool million in the two-player mode of this game show simulation, you must first win a fastest finger contest in which you place items (such as films or states) in their proper order.
Once you take the hot seat, Regis Philbin will give you a question with four possible answers. Answer it correctly (within the 30-second time limit) and you will win $100. Each ensuing question promises a bigger payoff. The questions start off relatively simple and get progressively more difficult as you work your way up the monetary ladder.
From time to time, the host will ask: "Is that your final answer?" If you press no, you will be given 10 seconds to change your answer. Once you answer the $1,000 question, you are guaranteed at least that amount of money. If you manage to make it over the $32,000 hump, you will take home at least that much cash.
If you get stuck on a question, you can use a lifeline. All three lifelines from the television show are included: Ask the Audience, in which you can poll the in-studio viewers; Phone a Friend, which lets you call a (computerized) pal for help; and 50/50, in which the computer takes away two of the wrong answers. You can use each lifeline only once. If you've used up all your lifelines, you don't know the answer and you don't want to risk going down to $1,000 or $32,000, you can simply quit the game and walk away with earnings received thus far.
The game ends when you walk away, run out of time, miss a question or win a fantasy check for $1,000,000. A special Tonight's Leaderboard screen posts a list of the top 10 winners and their prize money.
