Description: Postcard from a WW2 Vet to his grandparents. Doing some research, we found the following from Santa Ynez Valley news and believe this is the writer of the postcard: E.W. Cox Obituary Dec. 5, 2013"E.W. Cox passed away on December 1. He was born on January 3, 1924 to Addie Mae Patterson and Eldridge Cox in Pond Creek, Tennessee near Nashville. In 1939 he received a football scholarship to Montgomery Bell Academy where he lettered in four sports. He was an Eagle Scout and All-State Legion baseball player. In 1941 he attended Vanderbilt University on a football scholarship where he played varsity as a freshman. He withdrew after two years to become a bombardier in a B29 in the Army Air Corps where he served until the end of the war. He married Virginia McDonald in 1945 and spent the next fifteen years farming in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas and being a florist in Scottsbluff, NB. In 1960, he purchased the Avenue Flower Shop in Lompoc and ran it until he retired in 1987. He was a member of Rotary, Elks, Chamber of Commerce, United Way Board, Title IX Committee, and the United Methodist Church. After an auto accident in 1993, he spent the last twenty years of his life as a quadriplegic. He was known for his compassion, generosity and love of life. He never missed a chance to listen to or tell a good story."Running across stuff like this is one of the many reasons we love postcards. Please look at the photos provided before purchasing.
