The Collection: This comic is from a collection of many hundreds that belonged to a friend of our family who passed away on October 19, 2021. He bought them off the rack as a child in the 1940s and 50s. They stayed carefully tucked away in the same home since that time. The first time they were handled or moved is when they were put into a tub when his house was cleaned out after his death. This was not done by us but was mostly done carefully and only a few appeared to be damaged in the process. The original owner had no spouse or children and no other living family, so many of his things came to us. Included in this collection are many Dell Four Color and Disney titles, including a nearly complete run of Uncle Scrooge and a very long run of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories, and many Captain Marvel Adventures and Marvel Family comics from the 1950s. Update September 2024: All but a few of the Fawcett Comics have been listed and sold. There are still over 200 Disney comics to list. About Me: I used to be an avid comic collector. I always had a copy of the Overstreet guide and was always on the lookout for comics on my wish list. I even worked in a comic book store for about a year when I was in college. That was a long time ago. I never lost the love of comics, but the space to store a big collection became problematic and I sold my very large collection in the late 1980s. I just never started collecting again. About This Listing: Publisher, series, issue, and title: Dell Publishing Co., WALT DISNEY'S COMICS AND STORIES, June 1945, Vol. 5 No. 9, Issue No. 57 First impression: This is the second copy of this issue in the collection. I believe this is the only duplicate out of the entire run. The other may or may not be available, but you can search on my store and check. Several big pieces out at corners, but a visually appealing comic. Low grade for missing pieces, scuffing, subscription crease. Degree of gloss: The low side of moderated. Better than dull. Condition of cover: The major flaws are the corners which I'll describe in the next section. Light subscription crease, more visible on the back cover. A couple visible stress lines and an indent or drag mark, both near Donald's feet. Edge wear and chipping with some flecks out at both the top and bottom edge. The right edge is pretty good. Another indent or drag mark above Donald's extended finger near the right edge. Quite a few half-moon indentations in the red area of Donald's swimsuit. A thumbprint near the spine, behind the goat's derriere, also some fingerprints near the bottom right corner. Quite a lot of scuffing all over, and some scrunchy looking stresses in various places. Corners: Top right blunted and scrunched, a little deformation. Bottom right corner is missing from the cover and there is a dig with color removed to the left. The bottom left corner is blunted and there is a 3/4" tear with some tiny pieces folded over and some missing. The top right corner is completely torn off from the cover and there is some minor damage to the interior pages. On the front, a 1/2" piece is missing, and the back has a 3/4" triangle gone. Spine and staples: The staples are mostly centered, tarnished or matte, and there is some wear around the staples. Both staples are popped, the bottom staple a little worse with some visible small tears. There is a small reading bend, and the raised part of the spine is scuffed. There are numerous spine stresses, some color-breaking. Original staples: Yes Interior staples: Tight, centered, matte. Paper color and condition: Darker off-white to off-white, maybe cream at edges. Slightly stiff but not brittle at all. Foxing. Smell: Bakery. Seet, vanilla, bready. Interior condition: Top spine corner is slightly damaged from the front in the first few wraps. Top outside corner is bent from reading. There is a small tear near the spine corner at the bottom of the first page. There is a miscut warp with no top margin, but all panels are there. If I had to give it a grade: 1.8 Good- The book has some visual appeal, but there are tears and missing pieces at three corners. I am not a professional comic book grader, but I have done my best to describe and photograph the comic being offered in this listing. Thanks for looking and have a beautiful day.
