The Collection: This comic is from a collection of many hundreds that belonged to a friend of our family who passed away on October 19, 2021. He bought them off the rack as a child in the 1940s and 50s. They stayed carefully tucked away in the same home since that time. The first time they were handled or moved is when they were put into a tub when his house was cleaned out after his death. This was not done by us but was mostly done carefully and only a few appeared to be damaged in the process. The original owner had no spouse or children and no other living family, so many of his things came to us. Included in this collection are many Dell Four Color and Disney titles, including a nearly complete run of Uncle Scrooge and a very long run of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories, and many Captain Marvel Adventures and Marvel Family comics from the 1950s. Update September 2024: All but a few of the Fawcett Comics have been listed and sold. There are still over 200 Disney comics to list. About Me: I used to be an avid comic collector. I always had a copy of the Overstreet guide and was always on the lookout for comics on my wish list. I even worked in a comic book store for about a year when I was in college. That was a long time ago. I never lost the love of comics, but the space to store a big collection became problematic and I sold my very large collection in the late 1980s. I just never started collecting again. About This Listing: Publisher, series, issue, and title: Dell Publishing Co., WALT DISNEY'S COMICS AND STORIES, February 1945, vol. 5 No. 5, Issue No. 53 First impression: Subscription crease, some small pieces out, spine roll, staple tears. Nice interior. Low grade. Degree of gloss: Moderate to low. Condition of cover: Subscription crease with some tearing and a small piece out at bottom edge. A 1/4" piece missing from the right edge by the rabbit's head. A drag mark to the right of Huey, a color-breaking stress above Dewey's head, and a small stain at the bill of Louie's cap. A ding in the top edge above the "T" in "WALT". Some long non color breaking drag marks near the bottom edge and parallel to it. There is a fingerprint on Donald's head. There is a water spot or stain on the "M" in "COMICS". Quite a lot of general stress, indentations, and surface dirt. A piece cut and torn from the address section of the back cover. Corners: Top right scrunched. Bottom right rounded and several light creases. Bottom left is blunted, damaged, and torn and there is some attrition. Also blunting and attrition at the top left, but less egregious. Spine and staples: Staples are close to centered but there is moderate to severe spine roll. The staples have some shiny spots and no visible rust. There is considerable staple wear with tears which protrude into the cover. A flap is torn by the top staple. There is a reading bend and a bit of a fold, mostly at the bottom half and about 1 1/2" from the spine. Original staples: Yes Interior staples: Centered, tight, matte. Paper color and condition: Dark off-white at the top, lighter toward the bottom but still off-white. Perhaps leaning toward cream or tan in some places. Supple. Smell: Sweetened cereal. Interior condition: Both corners have some reading wear. There is a tear in the margin at the bottom of several pages, all in different spots and probably not a bindery flaw. There is a diagonal fold line in the top half of some pages. The interior is still nice, none of this is too distracting. If I had to give it a grade: 2.5 Good+ I am not a professional comic book grader, but I have done my best to describe and photograph the comic being offered in this listing. Thanks for looking and have a beautiful day.
