Signed by renowned Japanese artist, Eiichi Kotozuka, Owl and Cherry Blossoms is one of his best examples of the Sosaku Hanga style of art. Kotozuka studied at the Kyoto Specialist School of Painting in 1930. His first published woodcuts date from 1932. In 1938. Kotozuka's woodcuts were issued by Kyoto's two major publishers, Uchida and Unsodo. Before the Second World War his woodcuts were designed in the traditional Shin Hanga style. After the War he began experimenting with more modern Sosaku Hanga techniques brilliantly exploring both form and texture. He both carved his own blocks and printed them by hand in small editions. "Owl and Cherry Blossoms" is one of his largest oban-sized woodcuts and one of his most impressive works of original art. Excellent Condition.
