Description: Welcome to my auction.Up for serious bidders only is this original and very rare vintage 1980's silk screened artwork poster from The Neue Slowenische Kunst. Translates to New Slovenian Art. This group was formed due to the political and social fracturing of Yugoslavia at the time. They wanted people to be able to express themselves through art and not to be suppressed by a political system. This is only one of a collection of seven posters. They are all stamped on the corners with the Neue Slowenische Kunst stamp. For further research and info, please check out what Deuce of Clubs book club states about the book Interogation Machine By Alexei Monroe and you will get a better idea of the controversial nature of Laibach and the NSK. All posters are standard poster size. All of their posters have a very strong statement being made and were chosen to reflect the theme in its works of the complicated relationship between the Slovenes and the Germans. This one depicts strong religious meaning. THE NSK STATEThe NSK State is an abstract organism, a supremacist body, installed in a real social and political space as a sculpture comprising the concrete body warmth, spirit and work of its members. NSK confers the status of a state not to territory but to mind, whose borders are in a state of flux, in accordance with the movements and changes of its symbolic and physical collective body. The NSK State is a state in time, a state without territory and national borders, a sort of »spiritual state«. Besides the members of NSK, the right to NSK citizenship belongs to thousands around the world, to people of different religions, races, nationalities, sexes and beliefs. The right to citizenship is acquired through the ownership of an NSK passport. The NSK State was created in 1992 by the groups that belonged to the arts collective Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK). These included Laibach, IRWIN, Noordung, New Collectivism and the Department of Pure and Applied Philosophy. Neue Slowenische Kunst was founded in Ljubljana in 1984 as socialist Yugoslavia was beginning to fracture. By the end of the decade the NSK groups had won a reputation throughout Europe, North America and Japan. Their works and actions commented on many of the political events of the past three decades, and NSK is now generally acknowledged to have played a key role in the political and cultural history of Slovenia and the former Yugoslavia; it is credited, among other things, with making a substantial contribution to the pluralisation of society and culture in the 1980s.The NSK State, created in the aftermath of Slovene independence, has organised a series of temporary »Embassy« and »Consulate« events in a number of cities, including Moscow, Ghent, Berlin, and Sarajevo, and carried out other collective actions as well. The NSK State is conceived as a utopian formation which has no physical territory and which is not to be identified with any existing national state. The NSK State is inherently transnational. It issues passports to anyone who is prepared to accept its founding principles. Citizenship is open to all people, regardless of national, sexual, religious or other status or affiliation. The NSK State currently has several thousand citizens in numerous countries and on six continents. The NSK State is a collective cultural work, formed not only by the iconography and statements of its founders but also by responses of its citizens to these and, indeed, to the very existence of the state.
