Description: This vintage 12" Nicholson 1" wide doublecut flat bastard file for use as-is or for knife-smithing stock was made in USA. It measures 1 1/8 inches wide at heel end and tapers down to 7/8 inch wide at its very tip. It is a full 1/4 inch thick at the heel end, and thins slightly to 3/16 inch thick at the tip. Both sides are doublecut (see photos). This file measures 14 7/8 inches in overall length from tip to end of the tang, and weighs a very substantial 14.6 ounces (414 grams) as pictured! The hard steel of this rasp rings bright as a bell when struck. Note that every surface of this rasp bears cutting teeth, and that those teeth are clean, open, and without rust (see photos). What's more, those teeth are edgy and crisp, and one side feels as good as the other. For either file use or for use as knife stock, this is a good article. However, as a pre-owned vintage item, file must be offered here "as-is." It may be of interest to learn that seller has NOT physically, chemically, or ultrasonically cleaned or oiled the tool for the pictures you see here. Please see all 9 photos, using the zoom magnification view as necessary or desired to see condition details, as the photos complete the description of this file. To be shipped inexpensively by trackable USPS mail. (This listing and photos prepared by seller without use of any AI application.)
