Description: These are vintage Christmas figures, apprx. 7”, hand-written card identifiers attached with MISTAKENLY IDENTIFIED NAME TAGS/ found as shown and possibly intended to be sold. Could have been fashioned by some group in Chicago Suburbs for Christmas fund- raising decorations.??? ( hard to believe that any American citizens would not have been familiar with the CORRECT well known names of these Marshall Fields advertising characters. This is what leads me to believe they were made for Marshall Fields - probably in Japan, which was a large exporter of Christmas decorative items at the time.) There are no maker marks or store identifiers. Heads are hand decorated styro balls. Appears to be crepe paper clothing and very “long-haired furry” pipe cleaner legs and arms. They do look like they were carefully fashioned and faces are very close in drawing quality and characteristics. No mention of Marshall Fields on figures, but may have been part of larger scene. Unknown makers. These figures stand on their own, on cardboard bases. Both were purchased at an estate sale in Chicago suburbs, in the 1970’s. Found as shown , in a cardboard unmarked shoe box.I am guessing that these may have been made in Japan in the 1940-50’s, and whoever was labeling the figures, in whatever country made, marked these in error. The Marshall Fields Company heavily used “Aunt Holly and Uncle Mistletoe” characters in Christmas advertising at the downtown store, and most citizenry should have been familiar with these.
