Description: Vintage Templar Sword & Scabbard - Pettibone Bros., Cincinnati, OH Circa. 1928 Dimensions: Length of scabbard = 38”, Sword length= 29.5”, Blade=22.5” Blade is engraved with “The Pettibone Mfg Co.- Cinti O” on the top of the blade. Estimated date of manufacture: Early 1900’s. Company started shortly after the Civil War, brothers James & William Pettibone produced military uniforms & accoutrements such as dress swords & buttons. Not much more is available on this company other than most of their swords are identified with the Knights of Pythius. Other than Masonic symbols engraved on one side of the sword and more decorative designs on the other side, engraved with owner’s name: “(See Photo Gallery), there aren’t any of the other engravings found on the sword. Ornate Knights head on the pommel and a Maltese cross on the end of the scabbard, The grip is plain ivory enamel with no markings on it at all. Condition: Sword is in excellent condition. The scabbard has considerable corrosion on one side. NOTE: John A. Moseley appears among the Freemason or Masonic obituaries searched. Moseley appeared in Sherman, Texas obits and is a confirmed member of their local Freemason Lodges. However, this sword could not be directly connected to this Mr. Mosley. If there are Mason loyalists out there that can fill in the blanks on our research, we appreciate it. We will credit verifiable sources on this listing.
