Description: Vintage signed Hopi Kachina 'White Ogre and Player' doll. - Depicts the White Ogre Wiharu, who visits Hopi villages to discourage bad behavior and to remind children of their responsibilities to their community. The Hopi ogre Katsinas play an important role in annual dancing rituals and are frequently depicted in traditional arts. - This piece is created from a wooden base with fabric, fur and feather ornamentation. Extensive hand painted detail. - Dynamic scene with two figures interaction less common amongst Kachina dolls with a player on the White Ogre's shoulders. - Signed by artist on base - Good overall condition. There is some crackling to the leather pieces which gives it a nice rustic look. There is some damage to the decorations on the back of one foot (see close up). Measurements: 18 1/2" x 9" x 9"
