Description: From John Stanley Antique Tools- This listing is for a hard to find Marsh axe in the smaller single bit size. As shown, this is marked with an 'M'. My good friend, Mr. Shaw, who is one of two authorities we know on Oakland, Maine axes told us that Marsh marked their axes with an 'M' as well as 'Marsh'. The handle may or may not be original.Our tools are kept in a dry environment with low humidity to help prevent rusting. Measures 23 1/2" long. The head is 5 3/4 " long with a 3 5/16" wide cutting edge. We estimate the axe head to be 2 1/4 lbs. Total weight with handle is 2 lbs. 13 oz. This presently resides in our personal collection.
