WWII German OfficerTakara large box #4 Combat Joe MIB: the condition is Mint/un-played with the original box and insert in C9 condition. I only took the box insert out of the outer box to take the photos. This doll was not held by the insert elastic although the elastic is perfect and still attached to the cardboard insert. It looks like the doll would be held too tightly by the elastic, so I'm not sure if the factory did not slip the doll into the elastic because of tightness. I did not remove the clothes to check the doll for stress cracks. This is a deluxe German WWII officer figure with a full uniform, boots, hat, belt, holster, luger handgun, and sticker sheet, all are mint condition. The hat and gun have never been removed from the plastic baggie which is factory stapled closed. The sticker sheet has never been removed from its own baggie. The Box and cardboard insert: This box is styled similar to the second run Mego WGSH boxes only with a smaller window on the front of the box and has a one-piece outer box design and an insert to hold the doll in place. The #4 box is about the size of a Hasbro GI Joe talker box from the 1960s and 1970s. The insert appears perfect, and the outer box is probably a C9+. The outer box is "crisp" with new sheen. The outer box has small shelf wear marks in various places around the box that do not seem to dig into the box or affect its smoothness, see photos. This Combat Joe was stored out of the sun light and in a storage box. I purchased three of these Takara figures (2 small box figures the #1 and #3, and 1 large box figure the #4) at Mr Big's Toyland in Waltham, Massachusetts in the late 1980s and put them into storage until now. I will put them all up for auction in the same week. All of these figures have different but similar faces, different eye color and different shades of hair color. The #1 and #3 are basic figures with only a shirt and shorts and the #4 is a fully dressed WWII German officer, and all are mint condition with high grade boxes. According to Wiki, Takara licensed the right to produce their line of GI Joe (called Combat Joe) in 1970 from Hasbro, they added the Henshin (meaning Transform) Cyborg line shortly after. The figures I am selling were produced in the early 1980s for the Japan market a number of years after Hasbro stopped making the 12-inch GI Joes, The Defenders, and Super Joe. They are unique in that Takara made their own heads and each was different for each figure, The body is very similar to the original long standing GI Joe body from the 1960s and early 1970s also using hands that are nearly identical to Hasbro's kung fu grip hands, but the back of the figure is stamped Takara, and the pelvic section is unmarked. They also made their own outfits for the figures not using Hasbro's patterns or accessories. When these toys were made Takara was still its own company and did not merge with Tomy until 2006. Mr Big's Toyland in Waltham was a great place and "Mrs Big" handled the GI Joe and Captain Action items and any of the consignments they sold as well. Mr Big/Arthur had good connections around the country and would get toy closeouts at a good price. I remember seeing about 50 Mego Mummies MIB on a shelf when in there one day...$30 each. Sorry, but I did not buy any of them...but someone out there may be sitting on them.Thank you for viewing my auction and Happy Bidding.
