The Motor Coach Industries MC-9 Crusader II launched in 1978 was an evolution of the MC-8, and ultimately went on to become one of the most popular MCI buses ever produced with 6,425 units sold over the production life-span which ended in 1987. Transportation Manufacturing Corp. (TMC) a division of Greyhound Bus Lines formed in 1984, also went on to produce an additional 3,194 units of a very similar design with slight variations called the MC-12. The MC-9 featured a flat roof-line, tall rectangular windows that were all the same size and a new interior parcel rack design.
