It still reflects the interior spring just not as much as it would if the silvering was faded. **These particular ones with the colored balls are not missing liquid. A common misconception with kaleidoscope ornaments is that every one of them had liquid at one point. The ones that have liquid, the balls will be clear and the liquid is colored. You can get those sometimes where the liquid has evaporated throughout the years. I even have a few empty ones. Some were just made with a colored ball versus liquid filled. I also have some with glass ribbons that are from Germany and considered kaleidoscopes but the glass ribbons/threads reflect instead of a ball.
