This unique 20th century plaque was produced by French designer Fabienne Jouvin renowned for her modernist and contemporary high-end designs. The plaque is part of a range of 'pop art' motifs created by Fabienne Jouvin, a French artist passionate about Chinese culture. Items were made near Beijing, by local craftsmen. Hence Fabrique en Chine on the stamp. Inspired by Andy Warhol's Pop Art multiples, Fabienne Jouvin created a series of ceramic pieces with the face of Puyi, the last emperor of China. A play on his original image from vintage photographs reveals an updated modernist interpretation. Puyi was the final emperor of China, reigning as the eleventh and final monarch of the Qing dynasty. He was later ruler of the puppet state of Manchukuo under the Empire of Japan from 1934 to 1945.
