VINTAGE CONTINENTAL METAL TENOR SAXOPHONE MOUTHPIECE - LELANDAIS STENCIL

This listing is for a vintage "Continental" brand metal tenor saxophone mouthpiece. I'm pretty sure this was made by Lelandais. They produced some pieces like this that were sold under other brand names. It is a very cool looking mouthpiece! It is made of (heavy) solid brass, with a red marbled bite plate. It has (triple) fluted sides, with a channel underneath that might have been for a slide on ligature. There are two 'beaded' rings around the shank. It is stamped "C" on the table. Unfortunately, this piece has been worked on postproduction, and not very well. The tip is razor thin, with a very wide and uneven tip rail. The tip opening currently sits at .075". It looks like some work was also done on the baffle, most likely to compensate for altering the tip. That being said, the facing is perfectly smooth, and there are no tooth indentations on the bite plate. I'm not sure how, or if, these were plated, but this one looks to be bare brass. This piece does play in its current state, but not great. It is rather tubby sounding, and very dark. A suction/pop test does produce a brief reed to mouthpiece seal. I think this piece could definitely be improved upon by a more qualified refacer, and maybe could even be turned into a real gem! This mouthpiece comes with the ligature and cap shown, but I don't think either are original to it. The ligature has some minor stress cracks on the interior. The cap is not dinged or cracked.
