Vintage Charles and Ray Eames Mathematica Timeline Poster

Description: Item detailsVintage poster from 1966 MaterialPaper DimensionsHeight: 24 inches; width 146-7/8 inches (printed on paper nearly 48 inches x 74 inches). “This folded History Chart can be read as a book by turning the pages until you return to the first page. It can be seen in its total length of 12 feet, 2-7/8 inches, if you cut along the dotted line starting at the bottom of the first page and place the two halves” alongside each other. Five years after the opening of the Eameses’ first exhibition described below, IBM published an unusually long (2 feet x 12 feet) timeline poster entitled Men of Modern Mathematics based on the exhibit’s History Wall. A visual and informational tour de force, this stellar graphic piece was distributed for free to schools across the country. It explores the history of mathematicians from 1000 to 1900. Mathematicians were selected for their original contributions to the field of mathematics; their biographies are surrounded by pictures and words which “give clues to the kinds of attitudes and events that influenced the development of mathematics and mathematicians.”A limited quantity of this original poster is available from the Eames Office archives. While the posters do show some marks of time, they are in very good condition and would make a superb addition to schools, universities, offices or homes.Mathematica: A World of Numbers . . . and Beyond, an interactive exhibition designed by the Office of Charles and Ray Eames and funded by IBM, explores mathematical concepts in a way that appeals to all ages and degrees of education—from the young child to the seasoned mathematician. The show debuted in March, 1961, for the opening of a science wing at the California Museum of Science and Industry in Los Angeles. So successful was the exhibit that two duplicates were constructed for further travel and exposure. More than 50 years later, two institutions (the Museum of Science in Boston, Massachusetts and the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan) house this engaging exhibition.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5H0Ym1gBsVY Listing is for poster only; sold unframed and unmounted; folded dimension is 15 inches x 24 inches; shipped folded and flat.
