Description: Offered up for sale is the pictured 1960-70s chalkware piggy bank. It’s unbranded, but I believe it’s made in Japan. This is a big piggy bank, measuring approximately 15 inches long 10 inches high ear tip to huff and 6 inches across at the feet. This guy shows little wear from the years but the glazing does show a few manufacturers flaws. In addition, there’s some small scuff marks on the flat of his pink nose. The rim of the ears are smooth with just a couple of fleabites, one each. No cracks are observed at all and tapping it lightly with a fingernail at various points suggest that it is as well. There’s a pictured flaw in the glazing along its back (it looks like two long drip marks) along with a couple of fused crumbs of fired clay between an eye and ear (last photo). On the belly, there’s a purposely made small hole for the firing process. The flat surface of the hoofs are unglazed and they’re white. If this isn’t chalk, then it’s an inexpensive, thin, white clay. I found a scrap of newspaper fused on the bottom of a hoof with what to me looks like Japanese characters. That’s how I attribute this to being Japanese (along with the overall style. Definitely looks Asian stylistically.
