Description: British Walkers, perhaps ironically, is an historic American brand originally owned by the J.P. Smith Shoe Co. of Chicago. J.P. Smith’s Chicago factory was completed in 1912 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. J.P. Smith advertised British Walkers as “shoes of fine craftsmanship and matchless taste….” E.E. Taylor Corp. later purchased the brand and production ultimately moved to Maine. As vintage shoes go, outside of NOS/deadstock pairs, these are about as good as it gets. The burgundy color is deep and beautiful, with a natural patina that could only be recreated by the best patina artists. These shoes shine like a new penny. The longwing brogues with double oak soles (original) are the pinnacle of vintage style. Of course, Florsheim Imperials are the more famous cousin, but having owned and sold plenty of, made in America British Walkers take a back seat to no one. Recently conditioned (Bick 4) and polished (Saphir). Pictures are the best indicator of condition. Shoe trees not included.
