Description: This excellent 1950's clockwork tinplate Sky Patrol has no manufacturer mark but "Made in GT Britain" appears on the piece itself and the box. This is reminiscent of Mettoy but as stated, no manufacturer name or logo appears on the item, box or key. This piece is identical to the slightly earlier Sky Ride by Niedermeier of Germany. When the motor is wound the aircraft spin in a clockwise direction. As the centrifugal force increases they spin to up the pole but as they leave the base the motor disengages. When they reach the top and the energy decreases the aircraft begin to rotate back down the pole in an anti-clockwise direction. When they reach the base the motor re-engages and the sequence will repeat until the motor winds down. Naturally, the piece has been tested and is fully working. The condition of the lithography is superb and despite being around 70 years old it looks like it could have been made yesterday. It is free of scratching, denting or signs of corrosion. The outer box has age/storage wear and mild fading but it is complete with all end flaps and free of splitting, taping or significant deformation. Picture 8 shows the piece in it's folded state to fit in it's box. A wonderful survivor that displays beautifully.
