Description: This was found in a small chest of old tools my husband recently purchased. There were several items from England, one from Germany and this keyhole cover! Not very ornate but it has a lovely functionality to it. Wonder what stories it could tell... On the back, the brad that holds the two pieces together, look at that carefully and you will see that it is hand cut. I suppose that sort of finish went out of style around the 1940's when more machines were used to create this type of thing. The brad has 3 uneven facets. Today's would have one large flat surface. The word escutcheon means (if you don't already know): A flat piece of metal for protection and often ornamentation around a keyhole, door handle or light switch. Thank you for taking a peek at this listing, I've tried showing this item in various lights so that you can get a real appreciation of it's luster and color. Please examine the pix carefully to be sure this is what you are wanting. Please let me know if you have questions or need additional pix!
