"Brad Keeler Artwares, also known as Bradster Potteries was located in Los Angeles, operating in Glendale and East L.A., and finally in San Juan Capistrano, where a lobby mural is still extant. The company name was a portmanteau for the first names of Brad Keeler (1913-1952) and his colleague Jimmie Webster, who was also associated with Maddux of California. The company operated during the 1940s. Webster is said to have modeled the pottery, with Brad producing the molds. Keeler was born in Lincoln, California in 1913, and his father was a ceramic engineer for Gladding-McBean. Keeler studied art at USC before opening his own studio in Glendale, where he was known for flamingo and other animal figurines. He also developed a red glaze called Ming Dragon Blood that he used on a line of Chinese Modern housewares. In 1952, Brad Keeler Artwares is listed by the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce as a business employing 41 people in the county, located at 2940 Delay Drive, Los Angeles, with Brad Keeler as principal. However Keeler died that year, even as he was expanding to a larger factory in San Juan Capistrano; the business closed in 1953 SEE PHOTOS. ASK QUESTIONS.
