Vintage AUDREY SOULE 'Fishing the RIVER" New England LANDSCAPE Painting

Description: ORIGINAL AUDREY SOULE (1900-1971) 'FISHING THE RIVER' WATERCOLOR PAINTING This is just a great original piece. I bought this painting without knowing anything about the artist. I just really thought the work was excellent and I love fishing and other sporting art paintings. This one reminded my very much of a work by Aiden Lassell Ripley. After digging I was able to find an in depth biography about the artist from a retrospective done at a gallery back in 982. Soule was born in the UK and arrived in America at the age of 4. She took classes at the Museum School at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, She studied with Marion Sloan, Kay Peterson Parker, and Forest Orr. In the 1940s she split her time between Boston and Freeport, Maine. She was active in the Freeport Art Club and taught classes there. In the 1950s she had solo exhibitions at the Providence Art Club, Dartmouth Farnsworth Museum, DeCordova Museum, Portland Museum and others. Always successful, she also showed at the famed Boston gallery Doll and Richards. This is really a wonderful c1940s or so scene of a man fishing in an undisturbed river. Probably Maine but could be really anywhere in New England. Watercolor and gouache on paper measuring 17 x 22 3/4 inches. Signed lower right. Outstanding as painted condition. Very clean and looks to be completely unfaded. Really a beautiful as painted work. Later matte and frame are complimentary and ready to hang. Really a great presentation.
