Description: This is a serene and finely painted Vintage American REGIONALISM Massachusetts Impressionist Landscape Painting, Watercolor on Paper, depicting a rural landscape scene in Lenox, Massachusetts. Pale blue hues, subtle light greens, and opaque yellows highlight the scene. The feeling of stark isolation, and the rural and independent nature of these old American enclaves are prominently highlighted in this artwork. Annotated, signed, and dated in the lower right corner: "Lenox, Mass. LIANG '64." Additionally, an old framer's label on the verso reads: "Town & Village Mart...Custom Picture Framing...New York 9, N.Y." Approximately 22 1/2 x 27 1/2 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 14 3/4 x 19 3/4 inches. I could not find any information on this talented American Regionalist painter, but perhaps you know more about them or their work? Very good condition for decades of age and storage, with some mild scuffing, edge wear and gilding loss to the original period vintage gilded wood frame (please see photos.) Acquired in Los Angeles County, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer. Please check out my other listings for more wonderful and unique artworks! About this Artwork: Lenox was shaped by the Gilded Age and still feels its influence in music and art, marble and glass, and the stories of people who live here. The βCottagesβ still exist β the vast old houses that once belonged to wealthy families in the late 1800s and early 1900s, often from New York, who would come up for a stretch of clear air. They have evolved now into concerts on the lawn at Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and into museums and gardens β the home of Edith Wharton at The Mount, the Morgan family at Ventfort Hall, or Modern artists and art collectors at the Frelinghuysen Morris House Museum.Look closer, and the roots of the community show around them. Restaurants partner with local farms. An independent bookstore has been βserving the community since last Tuesdayβ for more than 40 years. Youβll find families who came to work the marble quarries and glass factories, volunteers reviving the historic railway and birders walking through Pleasant Valley. In the 1970s, a group of young actors formed a resident company at the Mount β they lived there, performed there β Puck in the trees, the Tempest riding the house like a ship in a storm, Whartonβs stories into one-acts in the parlor. They set up the restoration of her house and moved across town, and Shakespeare & Company still performs classics and contemporary works in summer and fall.
