Henri Chavet started his chess set company in the Jura mountains in 1912. This set isn't nearly that old; it is probably from about 1965, maybe later. It is a magnificent set, notable for the "glass eye" knights; regrettably I'm not the photographer to do it justice. It is in excellent condition, with one Black knight showing wear at the base; there is slight wear on the collar of the Black queen. All of the eyes of the knights are in place. The White pieces are made from olive wood, which accounts for the striking striping. The Black men are very dark, rosewood I think. The set is weighted, all the weights are intact and not loose. The felts are in good condition. This is an analysis set, with the king standing 2 3/4 inches with a base of 1 inch. This is a set for a serious correspondence player or someone who admires master craftsmanship in wood. The box is original to the set and is in very good condition. We are adding in this brand-new board as well. The board is vinyl as can be seen in the photographs. The footprint of the board is about 13 1/2 inches by 13 1/2 inches; each playing square is about 1 7/16 inches.
