It is made of different colored pieces of wood. The long cylindrical body is a very light-colored wood, with two decorative grooves, and may be oak. The two ends are much darker wood and appear to me to be walnut. I am unsure of the maker but I am sure it its American made and created by a very skilled artisan craftsperson. The maker has signed the kaleidoscope on a round brass insert in one end (see my photo of this) and the name appears to me to be “D Collen.” Between the non-viewing end and the body is a clear glass container holding colored bits of what appear to me to be glass suspended in some sort of clear oil-like liquid. When the kaleidoscope is held up to a bright light and you look through the viewing end and rotate the kaleidoscope there are a very colorful, constantly changing, and endless number of patterns that appear. Very charming and beautiful. This piece has been in my personal collection since around 1990, and has the most beautiful displays of any of the kaleidoscopes I owned. The piece in my photos is the actual piece you will receive.
