Description: This is so much better than a plastic toy! It is a vintage Playskool wooden abacus made from light maple. The frame has two sections for counting play - one section has three vertical dowels with red, green and yellow wood beds (10 of each) and the other section has 12 horizontal dowels with all yellow wood beads ( 120 in total) . The 1950s version of the Playskool logo is on the top bar. There are two small pegs legs that extend off the back of the top bar to allow the toy to rest and the beads to slide easily. This was an early educational toy to promote beginning counting skills. The beads move smoothly on the wood dowels. There have been a few repairs to some of the dowels and there is some residual glue on some of them, a bit of off-color stain on a few and a few spots. The overall finish on the wood is a bit spotty but still really nice for the 60+ years it has been around. The Playskool label is still very clear. This toy has been well-loved and has so much play left in it still. This fun, retro piece displays really well and would be okay if it was played with as it no longer in mint condition or it would be so precious to add color to home office or playroom. I love it!
