Description: You are buying an A4 modern print of the vintage pattern and not the finished item.This 1920s pattern is quite special as it has a little history to it. On the inside cover is a wonderful message to a knitter called Bella from an anonymous male admirer. Although very faint with age it reads: "This is positively the only pattern in India - every shopkeeper in Bombay knows that Bella is knitting me this so they guess how nice she must be." Sadly this message cannot be read on the modern print as it could not be transcribed due to age, but Bella's kindness will live on.The golf socks in the pattern were originally knitted using five No.12 steel needles using 4-ply Wendy Wool (now discontinued) and when completed would of been worn with the famous golfing plus four trousers of the time. However, you may wish to try a modern D/K as vintage yarns were heavier than modern, but work a tension square first before starting your new project and adjust your needles or ply (if needed) to obtain the tension stipulated in the pattern. Although this ebay listing is advertising a golf socks knitting pattern, you will also be given an additional pattern you may try if you wish at no extra cost. It is for a cable stitch sweater known as the St. Andrew's Sweater. This sweater was originally knitted in a 4-ply yarn using a pair of No.10 and three No.8 needles with NO tension or finished sizes given. The sweater pattern is not a beginners pattern and some experience is needed. Regards the 4-ply yarn used, you may wish to try a modern D/K as with the socks above.
