The 2nd Light Anti-Aircraft Missile (LAAM) Battalion was a United States Marine Corps unit that served during Vietnam War. The battalion was activated on January 1, 1962, and was initially based at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, California.The battalion was deployed to Vietnam in September 1965 as part of the 1st Marine Air Wing. The primary mission of the 2nd LAAM Battalion was to provide air defense for Marine Corps airfields and other installations in South Vietnam. The battalion was equipped with the AIM-9 Sidewinder and AIM-7 Sparrow air-to-air missiles, as well as the MIM-23 Hawk surface-to-air missile.During the war, the 2nd LAAM Battalion participated in a number of engagements against enemy aircraft, and also provided air defense for ground forces.
