Whitby jet is Deep brownish/ black in colour and ( warm and light to touch ) . Known as a mineral gem , in the same family as pearls and amber . It takes millions of years to form ( found only in England) . Whitby jet was Popular throughout the Victorian period as mourning Jewellery. Carved in all shapes and types of jewellery. The little berries have no chips or bubbles to suggest glass ( but may be glass or onyx or one of each ?) They have a tiny screw thread that has been screwed attached to the carving. Silver pin ( C-Clasp ). This dear little brooch weighs 5.16 grams. It measures 5.2 cm long plus bale x 1.4 cm wide. This will appeal to lovers of Whitby as it’s very rare . It will come with a new velvet storage bag and gift boxed . I have not fully cleaned it as some people prefer the patina left on ( blackened aged look) . You may wish to polish.
