Description: Created by Michael Sporn, this is original animation artwork, specifically created, hand colored and photographed for the making of the PBS Emmy nominated film "Abel's Island", which aired on February 11, 1989. Approximately 12,000 cels and 150 backgrounds were used in the making of this film of which only a limited number are available. Based on the novel by William Steig, this film tells the story of Abel, a mouse, who is thrown by the wind onto an island, and separated from his wife Amanda, for over a year. The film details Abel's struggle for survival in his desperate attempts to return home. The hope inspiring his courage to go on is the undying love he and Amanda share. The film was aired on PBS as part of the series, LONG AGO AND FAR AWAY and is distributed by Random House.
