This faceted tourmaline is an 8 X 4 X 3 mm rectangle weighing .95 carats bezel set in a sterling silver tourmaline shaped setting and includes a 16" argentium sterling silver cable chain made in the USA with a lobster claw clasp. This necklace is for a petite sized person, and the style is very chic. The tourmaline setting has also been coined a "pencil" setting, and would accessorize nicely with a pencil skirt. The gem is natural and untreated. The verdelite tourmaline is admired for its diverse spectrum of green shades, ranging from delicate pastel pale greens to rich and deep emerald tones. This gemstone is a medium green, it is eye clean with good luster & has an excellent cut. This tourmaline exhibits a glassy luster, showcasing excellent transparency, allowing the mineral to sparkle and shimmer in the light. Its origin is Nigeria. Tourmaline is very wearable with a hardness of 7 - 7.5 on Mohs scale. It is easy to wear and care for. Avoid steam cleaners or ultrasonic cleaners and avoid sudden temperature changes. Tourmaline will respond well to warm, sudsy water, a thorough rinse and patting dry with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals; use only gentle soap. I have used LED lighting in my photographs. The photos have been enlarged to show detail, and the necklace is pictured next to a dime for size reference. I use high quality metals in the jewelry settings. I do not use silver plated settings or chains. The setting is .925 sterling silver and is the standard for silver. It is called .925 because it is an alloy that is 925 parts out of a thousand silver. It is allowed for the other 75 parts to be other metals (usually copper) to enhance the strength, because pure silver is very soft and not structurally strong enough for many jewelry applications. Other "silver settings" come with different elements in their composition. German/Nickel Silver, which is an alloy consisting of copper, zinc and nickel, contains no silver. Many people have allergic reactions to nickel. Other settings may be called Mexican Silver, Indian Silver, Montana Silver, Pewter, Tin, Pot or Base Metal or simply silver. The content of these are less clear and do not guarantee the quantity or silver content. .925 is the best form of silver. It is durable and has a high sheen. Sterling Silver is considered a precious metal. The chain is made with .935 argentium sterling silver. Argentium sterling silver is made with a touch of germanium. Argentium sterling silver presents a bright white colour that is closer to fine silver than most traditional sterling silver, yet is extremely slow to tarnish under most conditions. Argentium sterling silver is the most expensive of the silver group. Store your necklace in the included gift box when not wearing to keep it in good shape, or at least inside the resealable plastic bag. Inside the gift box, I am including a 1" X 1" anti-tarnish tab.
