Description: Ueber Dolomite Der Lahngegenden Und Das Mit Denselben in Verbindung Stehende Vorkommen Von Manganerzen Author: Klipstein, V. Title: Ueber Dolomite Der Lahngegenden Und Das Mit Denselben in Verbindung Stehende Vorkommen Von Manganerzen Publication: Berlin: G. Reimer 1843 Description: 41, [1-blank], [1-druckfehler], plus one foldout color plate marked "Taf. III" (probably mis-labelled as we can only find textual references to Taf. I). Early robin egg blue paper boards with remnants of a paper label at the lower spine. Signature on front flyleaf (R Pumpelly). 2 x 5 cm piece of paper removed from title page to the right and just below the author's name (perhaps an earlier signature?). Otherwise apparently complete, noting the assumed mis-labelling of the single plate. Good. Stiff Wrappers. There are no copies listed on OCLC as of this listing. "The discovery of the wonderfully rich fossil locality of St. Cassian in South Tyrol proved a turning-point in the history of Alpine geology...In 1843, Klipstein published a geological and palontological account of the same districts. His observations in Abtey and Fassa valleys had been taken in unusual detail, but led to no satisfactory explanation of the tectonic relations of the district. Klipstein, who made personal collections to a certain extent and also bought largely from the village fossil-collectors, was enabled to add more than three hundred new species to the known fauna of St. Cassian. ... Bronn, in a review of Klipstein's work, in 1845, expressed grave doubts about the Liassic and Jurassic age of the Wengen-Cassian series, and stated that in his opinion these shales and mans were possibly members of the Triassic formation which had remained hitherto quite unknown, and-for which no comparison could be found in the German Tnias, or they represented an aberrant "facies" of the Muschelkalk."
