He had been a welder in the ship building industry – hailed from a place named Marblehead Massachusetts This is what he had related to the USS Constitution Here are some artifacts he was able to acquire over the years along with some modern memorabilia The longest spike is 9”and the restored spike is 5”. The piece of wood is about 2 ¾” Long on the side and about 7/8” thick The largest token is about 2 ½” Wide, a 1997 Bicentennial Salute. Seems to be made of brass – very nicely done The other token commemorates the deployment to Tripoli from 1803 to 1805 to deal with the Barbary Pirates. It is about 1 ½” Wide – I’ve never removed it from the plastic case. I see no fingerprints, so my buddy probably never removed it, either. It’s a beautiful coin – probably copper with a brilliant finish Well, he was real old when I got this set from him – and now I’m real old – so, time to pass this collection along to someone else who might be interested.
